Our founder member Shirley Meredeen died today November 1st 2022

SHIRLEY MEREDEEN 1930 - 2022

It is with great sadness that the New Ground community announces today, 1 November 2022, the death of our founder member, Shirley Meredeen, at the age of 92.

The very existence of New Ground and the ethos within it owes so much to Shirley’s vision and tenacity. ‘We will not be done unto!’ was an expression of her own fierce attachment to personal autonomy that became a guiding motif for the whole group in the face of successive setbacks.

We are glad Shirley was able  to enjoy at least six years here at New Ground. Life in the community, after this, its first death, will continue to grow and change, but its strength and resilience is a testimony to Shirley’s indomitable spirit. It is a legacy to be treasured and Shirley’s long life one to be thankful for.
